Abstract

Multi-scale modelling is becoming more common place with the increased compute resources available today. Biophysical models are more detailed today and can include detail on molecular level as well as organ level.

In this session, I will look at an implementation of a cardiac electrophysiology model that is a multi-scale biophysical reaction-diffusion model. By using this example I will go into detail how to approach the implementation of such a model. A special focus will be on a massively parallel implementation that uses both message passing as well as shared memory parallelism.

After this session the participants will have learned how to tackle large scale computational problems in an high performance computing environment to address simulation challenges of multi-scale models.
